Verelyn Vowel of McGregor passed away Wednesday morning, January 7, 2009, at the age of 94. Graveside services and interment were 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 9, 2009, at McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. Lianne Turner officiating.
Mrs. Vowel was born August 27, 1914, in Souix Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Ray Eugene and Vera Orpha (Brown) Clark where she was a 1933 graduate of Souix Falls High School. On August 27, 1937, she married George William Vowel in Waco, Texas. After fifty-two years of marriage, he preceded her in death October 18, 1989. In 1935, she moved to Waco from Souix Falls, South Dakota. After her 1937 marriage, she moved to McGregor from Waco. For ten years, Rocketdyne in McGregor employed her as a telephone operator. Later, she was employed by Smead Manufacturing as a secretary until her 1982 retirement after ten years of service.
Mrs. Vowel was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading and shopping.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter Geo rgiann Vowel, two brothers, Gene Clark and Sonny Clark.
Survivors include a son, Lee Carson Vowel of McGregor; a daughter, Vicki Elliott and husband George of Belton, a sister Nadine Hessing of Tehachapi, California; three grandchildren, Lynette Young and husband Michael, Ashley Dunn and husband Chris, Aaron Vowel; five great grandchildren, Miranda Young, Amy Buzan, Bradley Buzan, Megan Dunn, Emily Dunn; two great great grandchildren, Kilie Buzan and Daylan Buzan; her care giver and friend, Angel Watson.
